INDIA ART FAIR 2022 GALLERIES

Born in 1979 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Soma Das studied painting at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, graduating in 2009. Working in the detailed, placid styles of miniature painting, she portrays in her work the life of the working people, mostly women from humble economic backgrounds. She has been the subject of solo show Different Facets of Life at Gallery Nakshtra, Kolkata, 2010. She has participated in many group exhibitions at the major galleries in Kolkata including Emami Art, CIMA gallery, Weavers Studio, Aakriti Art Gallery and ICCR. Her work has also been featured in the exhibitions and art fairs in Delhi and Mumbai. She received State Academy Award in 2008.
Soma Das lives and works in Kolkata.

Born in Faridpur, Bangladesh, in 1939, Jogen Chowdhury studied painting at Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata and later, Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris between 1955 to 1965. Internationally renowned contemporary artist, he has been the subject of solo exhibitions Reverie and Reality at Emami Art, Kolkata; Compelling Presence: A Retrospective Exhibition at National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru; Abahaman: Flowing Lines, at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi; at Bose Pacia Modern, New York; Pundole’s Art Gallery, Mumbai; among many others. He has participated in the historic exhibitions on contemporary Indian art, Pictorial Space (1979) and Place for People (1880) at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and in the Triennale India (1971,1974,1977).

Jogen Chowdhury is the recipient of prestigious Kalidas Samman, Banga Bibhushan Samman and Jainul Samman. He lives and works in Santiniketan, Kolkata and New Delhi.

Born at Suryapet, Andhra Pradesh in 1956. G. Ravinder Reddy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture), in 1980, and a Master of Fine Arts (Creative Sculpture) from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1982.
The first striking feature you notice about Reddy’s sculptures are the eyes–wide-eyed, bold and sensual. The second is a sense of familiarity, not mythical creatures but common day images of women who sell fish and vegetables, students going to college and women on her way to work. His work is Indian in flavour but seeps with a global appeal. Reddy’s iconic work–The Head–encapsulates the quintessential Ravinder Reddy. It reflects Reddy’s own personality which is replete with calmness, coupled with a strength to live and work without bowing to society. His work revelled in the fusion of contemporary pop art and Hindu sculptural tradition. This fascinating trait spurred his national and international success.

His works are in collection of many museums and also part of private collections in India and abroad.
G Ravinder Reddy resides and works out of Visakhapatnam.

Born in 1950 in Siliguri, West Bengal, Arunima Choudhury studied painting at the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and Design and Mass Communication at Chitrabani, Kolkata, between 1970 and 1978. Working primarily with vegetable colours on handmade papers, she is known for her works depicting the languid world of nature and human being, their intimacy and coexistence. She has participated in several important group exhibitions at Emami Art, Kolkata; Hart Gallery, Beijing, China; Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata; among others. She is the subject of the solo shows Khela at Seagull Foundation of the Arts and Nature as I See at Emami Art, both in Kolkata.

Arunima Choudhury lives and works in Kolkata.

Born in 1963 in Angamaly, Kerala, Bose Krishnamachari studied fine arts at J.J College of Art, Mumbai and Goldsmith College, London, between 1986 and 2000. Ranked among the hundred influential people in the contemporary art world, Bose Krishnamachari is one of the most radical and versatile artists and engaged curators working in India today.

He has been the subject of several major solo exhibitions, Mirror Sees Best in the Dark at Emami Art (Kolkata, 2019); Maximum Bose at Gallery 7 (Mumbai 2013); Ghost at Aicon Gallery, London and Bodhi Art, Mumbai in 2008; Exist at Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai, 2005); and many others. His travelling installation project Lava (Laboratory of Visual Art) was held at Gallery BMB (Mumbai, 2009-2010). Bose Krishnamachari has participated in many significant group exhibitions, including Mapmakers: The Evolution of Contemporary Indian Art at Aicon Gallery (New York, 2012); Census of Senses at Exhibit 320 (New Delhi, 2011); Love is a Four Letter Words at Latitude 28 (New Delhi, 2011); Against All Odds: A Contemporary Response to the Historiography of Archiving Collecting, and Museums in India, Lalit Kala Akademi (New Delhi, 2011).

He is the recipient of the Charles Wallace (India) Award, Mid America Arts Alliance Awards, Bombay Art Society Award, Kerala Lalith Kala Akademy Award and several other prestigious awards and fellowships.
One of the founder members of Kochi Muziris Biennale, Bose Krishnamachari lives and works in Mumbai.

Born in 1968 in Odisha, Prasanta Sahu studied painting at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan and MS University, Baroda, graduating in 2000.

Committed to the post-modernist, critical language of art, Prasanta Sahu has shown his work widely in India and abroad. He has been the subject of the solo exhibitions, Suburban Shadow at Emami Art (Kolkata, 2020) and Blueprint of a City at Kalakriti Art Gallery (Hyderabad, 2016). He has participated in a number of important group exhibitions, biennales and art fairs, including Blue India at Asia Art Fair (South Korea, 2018); Constellations at Bihar Museum (Patna, 2018); Postcards at the Busan International Art Fair (South Korea, 2017); Small is Big – Contemporary Miniature Art at Durbar Hall Gallery (Kochi, 2012); Urban Discord at the Gallery Romain Rolland Alliance Francaise de (New Delhi and Hong Kong, 2009); and many others.

An artist, teacher and classical violinist, Prasanta Sahu lives and works in Santiniketan.

Born in 1972 in a small town near Hyderabad, Vinod Daroz studied ceramic sculpture at MS university, Baroda, graduating in 1999 and was also trained at Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry and under Sandy Brown in Biddeford, UK.

Vinod Daroz has showed his work in several solo shows in India and abroad, including Papillion at Threshold Art Gallery (New Delhi, 2016); Silent Shloka at Read Earth Art Gallery (Vadodara, 2012); Garden of Eden at Kalakriti Art Gallery (Hyderabad, 2009); Clay is Life at Anant Art Centre (New Delhi, 2007); and many others. He has participated in a number important group exhibitions, such as Uncertain Times and Beyond, organized by SSEDD (Turkey, 2021); the First International Contemporary Ceramics Invitation Exhibition at Guangxi Art Institute (Nanning City, China, 2020); National Unity and Togetherness at Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University (Turkey, 2020); and Elements in Mythology at Gallery Ark (Vadodara, 2019). Vinod Daroz has taken part in many national and international art workshops and residencies and is the recipient of the Charles Wallace India Trust Award, British Council, New delhi; Harmony Judges’ Special Award, Harmony Show, Nehru Centre, Mumbai and AIFACS Award for the best ceramic artist.

A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Geneva and International Ceramic Artists’ Association, Zibo, China, Vinod Daroz lives and works in Vadodara, India.

Born in 1992 in West Midnapore, Ghana Shyam Latua studied painting in Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, graduating in 2017.

Ghana Shyam is the subject of the solo show Khoai Landscape at Emami Art (Kolkata, 2021) and has exhibited his work in in Patterns of Intensity at Art Alive ( New Delhi, 2021; Occupying Space at Gallery Exposure( Kolkata, 2018); Dih-Pahr-Cher at Ganges Art Gallery (Kolkata, 2020); Inside the Fibre at Arts Acre Museum (Kolkata, 2020); Annual Exhibition at SSVAAD (Santiniketan, 2019); CIMA Award Show (Kolkata, 2019); Inward Vision at Arts Acre Museum (Kolkata, 2018) among many other group exhibitions. Ghana Shyam is the recipient of Dhi Support Grant (2020), National Garhi Scholarship (2017) of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and Takshila Santiniketan Fine Art Scholarship from Takshila Educational Society, (New Delhi 2020).

He lives and works in Santiniketan.

Born in 1992 to a family of artists who migrated from Bangladesh during partition to India and settled in Cuttack, Odisha, Arpita Akhanda studied painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, graduating in 2017.

Working in a wide range of mediums that include paper weavings, performance, installation, drawing, and video, she has taken part in several national & international exhibitions. She has performed at Teertha International Performance Platform, Sri Lanka and Chittagong Art College, Bangladesh and is currently a part of the artist in residency program Arbeitsgruppe Gästeatelier Krone, Aarau, Switzerland in association with Khoj Kolkata. She was also an artist in residence at Piramal Art Residency 2019-20. Arpita Akhanda is a recent recipient of Emerging Artist Award 2020 extended support platform, from FICA, India and Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation, 2021, State Award Fellowship in New Media from the Prafulla Dhanukar Art Foundation, 2019 and is also a recipient of National Scholarship by CCRT Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India in Painting, 2016.

Bholanath Rudra is a watercolourist and contemporary artist based in Kolkata. He studied painting at Rabindra Bharati University, graduating in 2013. He is a member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata, which he joined in 2019. Widely exhibited, Bholanath’s notable work is concerned with modernity’s assaults on nature and climate. Using different hues of colour, layer after layer, in his paintings to explore the soft, luminous and transparent quality of the watercolour medium, he represents humanity’s deep existential crisis arising from the destruction of nature and ecological balance by the rapid spread of modern urban civilization.

He has participated in the solo shows States of Mind at Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata, 2018 and Mechanical Libido at Academy of Fine Art, Kolkata, 2013. His work has been featured in many group exhibitions in the Annual Art Exhibition of Society of Contemporary Artists (2020, 2019, 2017), in the Annual Art Exhibition at Birla Academy of Art & Culture (2014, 2016, 2018); CIMA art gallery, Kolkata (2017); Rajya Charukala Parshad, Kolkata (2017-19); in the International exhibition of Manab Jamin (2012-15); AIFACS, New Delhi (2017); the State Art Gallery, Hyderabad (2019); Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi (2017); Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC) (2018); in the Annual Exhibition at Emami Art (2015, 2017); among others.

He was felicitated with many awards, including the State Gallery of Art Award, Telangana Government (2019), Birla Academy Annual Exhibition Award (2018), Rajya Charukala Parshad Annual Award (2017), National Exhibition Award, Lalit Kala Akademi, Karnataka (2017) and All India Watercolour Exhibition Award, AIFACS (2017).
Represented by Emami Art, his works were shown in the India Art Fair, New Delhi (2020).
