We are pleased to request your kind participation in the seminar “The boundaries are fluid” as one curator remarked “against the curatorships of other and you measure yourself.” which will be presented on Nov 28, virtually over zoom from Emami Art, 4:30 pm to 6 pm, in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition titled Fluid Boundaries curated by Nanak Ganguly.
In the last couple of decades, "exhibitions" have become the medium through which most art becomes known. Not only have the number and range of exhibitions increased dramatically in recent years, some iconic galleries and museums now display their permanent collections as a series of temporary exhibitions. We have also witnessed the rise of curators during this period; the curator’s true raison d’etre even today remains undefined. “The boundaries are fluid” as one curator remarked “against the curatorships of other and you measure yourself.” However, the rise of curator as a creator in the late 1960s not only changed our perception of exhibitions, but has also created a need to document them more fully.
This seminar will have curators/ art historians, educationists, cultural theorists in one platform, who have designed and pioneered or have written extensively on landmark exhibitions in the past which still act as a pivot for future exhibitions to emerge in India and to examine more in depth the curatorial practices of the present.
The process of ‘exhibition making’ as some curators prefer to call it has still remained unexplored that ties the intercultural manifestations created between curators, institutions and artists. For this we need this conversation should be a part of a collateral event during our show 'Fluid Boundaries' at Emami Art and you as one of the speakers to enrich us and open up our minds.
