Emami Art hosted an immersive musical evening featuring Parvathy Baul, the renowned practitioner, performer, and teacher of the Baul genre of music from Bengal. As a part of the gallery's ‘Locus in Focus’ programme, the event reminisced the traditional folk music of Bengal, inspired by the lineage of the Sufi, Fakir, and Baul poets. The performance was also a collateral event of the ongoing exhibition Karu, Folk and Tribal Art in Contemporary India, Parvathy's performance of Baul Gaan resonated the sense of folklore embodied in the exhibition.Baul Gaan or Baul songs express inner wisdom, compassion and also involve storytelling. The simple analogy of stories, referring to Krishna Leela, Mahabharata, Shiva Purana and many other tales from oral tradition, unfolds the vast inner wisdom. The mesmerizing performance of Parvathy Baul took everyone on a voyage of music to a mystical world.
