This initiative stems from two principal factors –

 

1. To create a network of established names in the art world who are willing to share their knowledge, advice, information and skills with an aim to mentoring young and upcoming art professionals.

 

2. To bring this knowledge to a single, easily accessible platform.

 

All young and upcoming practitioners benefit from insight, advice and guidance of established artists, writers, curators, gallerists etc.; however, it is usually difficult for most young people to gain direct access the people they look up to. In addition, we are especially committed to reaching an audience that is situated on the peripheries of core centres of art and knowledge dissemination systems. Areas such as Odisha, Bihar, the North East and West Bengal will especially benefit from the expertise of professionals from other parts of the country. Hence, Emami Art Mentorship Programme aspires to bridge this gap and create a platform where mentees can gain easy access to potential mentors from visual arts, film, art history, art writing, performance and new media practices among others.

We are also interested, at a later date, to start residency programmes and scholarships to deserving artists from the aforementioned states.
