It is in the days of modernism, the age of mechanical reproductions and of available museums that is especially so rich not in only poems that seek to resemble imaginary images but also in poems that seek to interpret existing ones. When poets turn their attention to arrangements of oil on canvas, we can expect the unexpected. This webinar, a part of the collateral of the ongoing exhibition at Emami Art titled Sublime Transferences aims at such hidden crevices of a poet’s mind and their intimate moments with Art. Poets are sensitive, intelligent observers who love art but are not art critics though there are exceptions like John Ashberry, Apollinaire and others. We know of Mallarme who daily visited the studio of his friend Degas. Rilke served as Rodin’s secretary. We still enjoy the enticing prose that came out of these associations, bridged by prose, of Picasso, Braque or Matisse with Eluard, Aragon and others. Sometimes their literary convictions divide them as poets, but the opposing points of view they bring to these have always remained exhilarating.
